 The PoLS students at Harvard have organized a one day conference on January 23 2013 featuring speakers from the Boston area, Princeton and Yale. Thesis Defense Bavarian Style

I am blogging straight from a merry Ph. D. defense party taking place downtown Munich on the roof top of the Physics Department of the (Ludwig Maximilan) University of Munich.
 

The star of the party is Philip Severin, until a few hours ago Munich POLS - SAVI student, now freshly minted Doctor of Physics.   Next to him are a proud Doktorvater (Ph.D. advisor), Professor Hermann Gaub,  and Vater, Dr. Dirk Severin.  Master of ceremonies on the roof top is  Munich POLS - SAVI student Stephan Heuke, well known to me from his stay in my Illinois home and Physics department as a Bavaria - Illinois  exchange student.
